This event features playwright Penn Kemp, with video presentations by musician Bill Gilliam, poet Stuart Ian McKay and author Sharon Butala. Sponsored by The Playwrights Guild of Canada.


PENN KEMP is a writer, editor and publisher. She has published more than 30 books of poetry, prose and drama, 7 plays and 10 CDs, with a multidisciplinary practice in new media. The League of Canadian Poets acclaimed Penn as Spoken Word Artist and Life Member.


BILL GILLIAM is a composer, pianist who explores the boundaries between new music, improvisation, electro-acoustic music and contemporary jazz. He has collaborated and performed with many experimental artists of like mind in the areas of music, improvisation, film, dance, theatre and sound poetry and continues to create compositions for new music chamber performance ensembles.


SHARON BUTALA's latest book, Season of Fury and Wonder is about old age: the joy of success and the sting of shortcomings. Each story is a riff on a classic work of literature. Season of Fury and Wonder won The City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize and was shortlisted for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Prize for Fiction and the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction. The highly-acclaimed Butala is the author of 20 books of fiction and non-fiction. She has been shortlisted for the Governor-General’s Award three times.


STUART IAN McKAY’s poetry and non-fiction have been published in many Canadian journals and anthologies, most recently Vallum. “even the idea of maya is maya “, a poetry chapbook, was published by Frog Hollow Press as part of its Dis/Ability Series. He has two full-length poetry books, Stele of Several Ladies -- a long poem and a cognate of prayer. Stuart serves on the poetry editorial collective of filling station.
