"AT LEAST A DOZEN MASS SHOOTINGS ACROSS U.S. OVER WEEKEND" reads the cable news as I type this (including last night around midnight, two blocks from where I live). 17,000 dead from bullets so far this year and it's only late spring. Compared to 22 other high-income nations, US gun-related homicides are 25 times higher. I am a gun owner and avid hunter in my youth. I support gun ownership for personal protection. But my medical training and systems engineering background force me to admit there is something terribly wrong and we must understand our horrible predicament in terms of systems causing it. Please join Health Systems Chat weekly regulars and NOOBs for our online meeting during the 2021 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo in Denver. Through the magic of social virtual reality, we will also meet in Denver, within sight of the Rocky Mountains! Our informal meetup is unaffiliated with the APHA, but we hope you will attend that meeting, personally or virtually, and share with us what you learn and experience.
Last year's APHA Meeting's theme was "Preventing Violence." Check out their related presentations. link
